Free up disk space on Windows 7 when running critically low on it

recover windows 7 hard disk space
recover windows 7 hard disk space
Windows 7 and Windows Vista users can reclaim hard disk space when critically needed without the need to delete any existing software applications or other important files. To do this you need to get rid of the redundant shadow files and restore points which can eat up a considerable amount of space sometimes even in GBs.
To do this get rid of the old restore points, keeping the latest ones.
Other option is to delete the shadow file, to do this follow the steps below:
Click on Windows Start button->Search Box and type-in cmd
Then open command Prompt (shortcut is by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Enter)
If prompted with User Access Control Window, then hit Yes
Type-in the given below command to remove old shadow files
c:>vssadmin delete shadows /for=c: /oldest
Alternatively to remove all shadow files type-in the following
c:>vssadmin delete shadows /for=c: /all
